Chip Moody: Open Swim

May 30 – August 24, 2024

Featuring photographs of 12 historically segregated City of Atlanta public pools, Open Swim is a new project by Chip Moody exploring the layered narratives of race and public space in our city.

Moody’s depiction focuses on the contemporary function of the pools as places of refuge for communities to gather, socialize, and affirm one another. Rather than unpacking these sites’ rich but fraught histories, Moody sheds new light on how increased access to shared spaces can foster generosity and deepen our experience of community.

Chip Moody was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his BFA at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2011. Moody was awarded an Arts and Culture Leader of Color inaugural fellow with Americans For the Arts (2019-2020) and received the prestigious Welch Fellowship while pursuing his MFA in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University.
