Davion Alston: Moments From an Interrupted Dream

February 1 – April 27, 2024

Davion Alston’s photographs are studies of fragments, details, and residues. They are meticulously crafted in-betweens that belie a worldly search for lineage and ancestral identity.

Created in recent years during a series of homecomings, many of the works on view depict traces of time spent in preparation for a transition to the afterlife. Working through suspended states of longing and loss, Alston constructed worlds in transient moments of solace, creating fractured narratives from an earthly dream.

Davion Alston currently lives and works between New Haven, CT, Atlanta, GA, and Brooklyn, NY. He describes his work as a constant flow of doing and undoing; thematically informed by his personal upbringing, and out of the desire to explore where his genealogical lineage comes from. He received his MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2023 and his BFA from the Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University in 2016.
